Issue Position

Charity is at the heart of making a community humane, and private charity is the one of the best expressions of the human heart. I will support efforts to make it easier for individuals and faith-based groups to thrive in their charitable giving and works.

Welfare programs serve as one component of giving people a hand up, but there is also a real problem of abuse and fraud which cannot be tolerated. State programs must be monitored closely so that they serve as temporary assistance to those in need, not a lifetime of entitlements for those who consciously choose not support themselves.
